A webinar to discuss the findings and next steps from a report on inequity of UK science engagement will be hosted by the British Science Association (BSA) at 12.00pm – 1.00pm on Thursday 5 May 2022.

The report, titled Mapping and analysis of science engagement and inequity in the UK, was commissioned by the BSA and compiled by London Economics and looks at different measures or ‘indicators’ of science engagement in a given area, combining them into a ‘opportunity to engage with science index’. The index aims to show access to science engagement within a local authority.

Please note that the raw datasets used to compile the report and indices will be available to download at 9.00am on Thursday 5 May, along with brief summaries on how they were compiled and key trends.

You will find them on the Science engagement mapping section of our website and we will email webinar attendees with the link.

The aim of this webinar is to provide science engagement practitioners, and other professionals and organisations within and beyond the science and culture sectors with an interest in public engagement, a chance to dissect the data and exchange ideas on how this work can be progressed.

Speaking at the webinar will be Clio Heslop, Head of Policy, Partnerships and Impact at the BSA and Andrew Pritchard, Economic Consultant and Project Director at London Economics. The speakers will cover:

  • Why the BSA commissioned the research
  • Rationale of approach taken
  • Key findings
  • Q&A from the audience

We look forward to welcoming you to this discussion. The full recording will be available after the webinar.
