Have you ever had a conversation with a ‘creationist’ that has left you confused and frustrated? You may be left wondering where these ideas have come from or how can someone living in the 21st century hold such views. As both a Christian and a research biologist, I am deeply concerned by the existence of ‘creationist’ ideas that reject science, but I think a lot more can be done to better communicate with people who hold such views. In this SciBar event, I want to explore the some these issues. We’ll look at the stories of former creationists who have changed their minds about evolution, and discuss what we can learn from these ‘converts to evolution’. What works and what doesn’t work. How can we engage in a way that will be productive?
