The British Science Association (BSA) is pleased to announce a new initiative for British Science Week 2016. Behind the Scenes of British Science will throw open the doors of Britain’s most fascinating science, technology and engineering locations, operation sites, laboratories and in places where you might least expect to find it.

The BSA’s new vision is of a world where science is seen as a fundamental part of culture and society - Behind the Scenes of British Science enables us to work companies, charities, not-for-profits and institutions to offer an opportunity for them to strengthen local networks, build connections, or begin conversations with the communities they operate in.

Fascinating science, engineering, manufacturing and technological innovation is taking place on everyone’s doorstep all over the UK and Behind the Scenes of British Science brings this to the fore. Sharing the science that is happening at your company or organisation to your local community; from children at school, to university students, to families and interested adults; it enables you to engage and communicate with them in the work that you do.

Following a successful pilot in 2015 with EDF Energy, Intertek, Network Rail, Thames Tideway Tunnel and the V&A museum, the BSA are looking to recruit STEM and non-STEM companies and organisations across the UK to be part of this exciting new initiative for 2016.

Dr Vince Cable, who attended Intertek’s Behind the Scenes of British Science event in 2015, said: “I am delighted to visit Intertek Sunbury today with these Twickenham and Hampton Academy students, and hope this visit and all the other opportunities happening during British Science Week, will inspire and encourage students to work hard to be part of the UK’s scientific future.”
