Meet the x-change volunteers
Esther Lie, 22
What you are currently doing?
I'm a recent Leeds University graduate in Biology and The History & Philosophy of Science, interning at the Victoria & Albert Museum in photography and motion media. I also volunteer in the community fundraising department at RNIB (Royal National Institute of Blind People) and work part-time at cafe-come-bike-workshop Look Mum No Hands! Busy, but loving London!
Why you are excited about volunteering for the x-change?
I’ve been excited about the British Science Festival for over a year now, especially since it’s in my home city of Newcastle. The X-change will be great fun, as we’ll pull together all the juicy festival snippets, and make them accessible for those who can’t attend the shows. I can’t wait to interact with local museums and scientists, helping to produce a dynamic science communication event... and deal with its surprises!
Who would be your perfect guest?
Leonardo da Vinci. It’s impossible, but it would be great to interview the incredible polymath who pretty much revolutionised our understanding of the modern world. Arts and science, he was a genius! I’d also kindly ask him why he didn’t draw a Vitruvian woman.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself...
The most blissful moment in my life was cycling naked in Melbourne for the World Naked Bike Ride! An epic, utopian experience, raising awareness about cycling and sustainability.
