Careers resources for science communicators
A number of the programmes run by the British Science Association cater for science communicators looking to develop their career.
You might find it interesting to browse our careers profiles, where people working in many different areas of science communication have shared their favourite bits of their job, as well as talking about how they got to where they are.
The Science Communication Conference takes place every year. In 2014, it will be held on the 1st and 2nd May, at the University of Surrey. The event is the only cross-sector conference that brings together people from across the science communication field.
Collective Memory is a microsite developed by the Science in Society team, which provides a place for science communictors to share ideas and examples of best practice. From debates to shows, festivals to workshops, hundreds of examples of public engagement events are described on the site. The event manager for each event describes their experience, learnings for the future, and top tips for other communicators thinking of holding similar events.
There are lots of opportunities to get involved in one of the country's biggest science communication events - the British Science Festival. Every year hundreds of events take place in a different host city, given the public opportunities to experience hands-on science through exhibitions, workshops, talks, debates and performances. This September the Festival will be coming to Birmingham - you can find out more about getting involved on the Festival section of the website.
If you can't make it to Birmingham, the Association's National Science & Engineering Week also sees thousands of public engagement events run throughout the year, each March. Information on how to get involved, as well as guides on how to plan, publicise and fund your event, can be found here.
If you're not already a member - your local branch of the British Science Association is a great way to get involved in the events and activities they run throughout the year. There are branches all over the country.
Our CPD portal will be launching very soon!
