All bookings are now closed.

Concessionary delegate fees are available to students (part or full time studying in the UK or abroad, excluding PhD students), the retired and unemployed.

To receive the concessary rate please email us with the following information and we will send you the discount code for the online registration form:

Students (excluding PhD)- please provide the name of your course, institution and course tutor and if you'd like to book 1 day or 2 day ticket.
Unemployed and retired- please state your most recent employment with dates and if you'd like to book 1 day or 2 day ticket

Bursary scheme

Bursary applications are closed.

We hope to offer a small number of bursaries to support people who would not otherwise be able to attend.

Am I eligible?

Bursaries will be awarded in the following categories:

• Science communication students (full or part time, UK)*
• Researchers involved in public engagement
• Freelancers and individuals from non-profit organisations with less than 15 staff
• Long-term volunteers in science communication

Unfortunately we are only able to offer bursaries to people in the UK. For those outside the UK, a possible source of funding is the British Council

As part of the bursary package, awardees will be required to write a 1 page summary report of one of the Conference sessions, and keep the British Science Association updated with how learning from the Conference was disseminated amongst colleagues.

If you apply for a bursary but are not selected and would still like to attend, you are guaranteed a place at the Conference and will only be charged the early bird conference fee.

Previous awardees of a Conference bursary are not eligible.

*You should be studying for an MSc in 'Science Communication', 'Science Media', 'Science Journalism' or similar.

Working with the British Science Association
After the Science Communication Conference we encourage awardees to stay involved with the British Science Association. This could be by volunteering with our Branches or sections, getting involved with National Science and Engineering Week or the British Science Festival or becoming a CREST mentor, and we are keen to explore ways we can work with bursary awardees in the future.

Selection criteria
Bursaries are awarded to eligible applicants involved in public engagement based on:

• Benefit from attending the Conference
• What they hope to take away 
• How they intend to disseminate information and ideas to others in their field.
