CREST Bronze
Design and model a games controller
There are loads of different games consoles on the market – and even more controllers for them. In this project you need to research all the various types of controllers available and set about designing your own. You’re not expected to be able to design and make the electronic circuitry to make them work, but you can make a scale model of your design.

CREST Silver
Build a simple robot, then make it ‘useful’
A joystick works by activating a series of micro-switches. The switches send a signal to the PC or games system, which then controls the motion of an object on the screen. Although it’s possible to build a ‘homemade’ joystick and then use it to control a screen object, it’s a bit complicated. It’s much easier to build a simple robot (for example, using Lego or Meccano), that has three wheels, one free to move, and the other two driven by separate motors, controlled by remote-wire switches.

Design and build a robotic ‘ball boy’ for tennis or cricket practise
For this project you will need to research automated machines and robots. You will need a mentor from the robotics industry as this is a complex project.
