Find your CREST Local Coordinator

Gold Awards


Gold Awards allow the most able students to conduct some real research. They are typically completed by 16-19yr olds; these longer-term projects require around 70 hours work. Suitable coursework or project work for the new Diplomas and the EPQ can achieve CREST Gold Awards.

Relevance:

  • AS Level
  • A Level
  • Advanced Vocational Qualifications
  • Any other Post 16 STEM related courses 

Commitment:

  • Takes 70+ hours project time per student
  • Can be completed as individual or team project (assessment is based on individual achievement)
  • A Gold Award can also be completed independently from any structured scheme or network. See CREST Gold Independent Guidance doc

Project Selection:

  • Self-selected by students
  • Chosen by the teacher
  • Provided by local company or university
  • Provided by CREST link scheme/activity (see below)
  • Chosen from the CREST online project ideas resource

Project Approval:

  • Must be by CREST Local Coordinator following submission of outline proposal by student

Registration:

  • Via CREST Local Coordinator after discussion with mentor 
  • The registration fee is currently £15 per student

Recording:

  • Gold CREST Profile form and report/portfolio completed

Mentor:

  • From higher education or industry
  • May be chosen by student but must be approved by CREST Local Coordinator

Reviewing:

  • Minimum five reviews by teacher in conjunction with mentor
  • Final evaluation by second industrial or educational evaluator selected by CREST Local Coordinator and in conjunction with mentor
