CREST in the news celebrating successes
There's been some good coverage of the CREST Awards in regional news recently with young people across the UK celebrating their successes.
Here’s a snap-shot of some of the recent CREST articles we have come across online.
Beaumont School’s young scientists recently were featured in the Herts Advertiser with 23 of them achieving CREST Awards through a variety of projects including examining the amount of vitamin C in orange juice and seeing which cleaner is best at killing bacteria.
The Morpeth Herald celebrated the successes of Newminster Middle School and Technology College that took individuals and teams to the Big Bang Fair North East. Six of their students will be attending the national event in London next March after impressing the judging panel with their detailed work including one CREST Bronze project on ‘How hardcore is your nail varnish?’ In the article Science teacher Gillian Whitmell (who ran the after school activities) explained “The children have worked very hard and were successful in meeting all of the criteria to achieve the bronze award.”
Biggleswade Today covered 13 year old James Wallace’s achievements in the regional heats of the National Science + Engineering Competition 2013. His Crest Silver Award Project ‘Happy Feet’ was completed whilst in Year 8 at Henlow Academy (he is now in Year 9 at Redborne Upper School).
First Eleven featured Oundle School and their partnership with local engineering companies and the Ministry of Defence working towards CREST Gold Awards. In the article, Head of Design and Technology at Oundle School, Clive Humphreys commented, “The educational value pupils get from solving real engineering problems for companies is enormous. The knowledge that their work, intellectual and practical, may affect future outcomes or products gives them a very real sense of purpose. We are always very proud of their achievements.”
