New CREST partnerships announced
The CREST Awards are thrilled to announce new partnership links with London Transport Museum and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.
We are pleased to be able to accredit both London Transport Museum's Inspire Engineering Days and the IET Faraday Challenge Days and are delighted that students taking part from September 2013 will be able to gain recognition for the quality work that they do throughout their challenges by achieving a CREST Discovery Award.
London Transport Museum Inspire Engineering Days
The Inspire Engineering Day includes an exciting hands-on session ‘Braking Eggsperiment’, the opportunity to meet practicing ‘Engineering Ambassadors’ – Engineers and Planners from Transport for London, and an exclusive look at the engineering wonders in the Museum’s amazing collection. London Transport Museum have had some great feedback about the days already, including:
“The Eggsperiment was great. They don't get that kind of equipment at school. Also really good was talking to the engineers. Students got a lot out of that. Thanks!” - Gunnersbury School
“Students enjoyed 'Eggsperiment'. Emphasis on engineering as a problem solving process made many students think - well done!” - Park High School
From September 2013, students participating in the Inspire Engineering Day will also be eligible for a CREST Discovery Award.
IET Faraday Challenge Days
The IET Faraday Challenge Days give students the opportunity to research, design and make prototype solutions to genuinely tough engineering problems. At each event teams compete to win a prize for themselves and a trophy for their school, with the top 3 teams from across the year going on to battle it out at the National Final in June.
The IET commented that “we are very pleased to be able to offer all students taking part in the IET Faraday Challenge Days the opportunity to gain a CREST Discovery Award. We hope that this will only be the start of these students’ journeys and lead them to go on to work towards a Bronze, Silver or even Gold CREST award to progress their STEM skills and knowledge as well as their teamwork and communication skills as they work together on their designs and prototypes.”
The British Science Association and the CREST Awards are very excited to work with both these new partners and to recognise the achievements of more students in STEM.
