4x4 in Schools

4 x 4 Technology Challenge is aimed at key stage 3, 4 and 5 students in school or young people aged 13 to 18 years old in any outer school initiative. The challenge involves 4 to 6 team members working together to design and build a radio controlled 4-wheel-drive (4x4) vehicle to set specifications that can successfully negotiate a specially designed test track that will emulate that of real life and what a full scale 4x4 vehicle can do.

Teams entering the challenge will spend a number of weeks designing, researching, building and project managing their 4x4 vehicle to enter it into a regional heat and compete against other schools from their area. Regional winners will be selected through a judging process to go through to the National Final.

How does it fit in with CREST?

Students taking part in the 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge will be eligible to apply for a CREST Silver Award as many of the skills needed to obtain a CREST award will be demonstrated such as working systematically, solving problems creatively, writing up a portfolio of work and presenting their work.

How do you register for 4x4 in schools?

To register, simply go to the 4x4 in schools website, where you will find further information about the challenge, downloadable documents such as the rule and regulations and a registration page to enter into the challenge.

If you are already taking part in the 4x4 in Schools Technology Challenge and you would like to register for the CREST Awards, please contact your CREST Local Coordinator.
