STEM Challenges

STEM Challenges The STEM Challenges are ten activities that were inspired by London 2012. Each one is a competition and focuses on a different aspect of either the preperations or the event itself. They provide a contextual and cross-curricular approach to studying the STEM subjects at 11-14 (KS3/S1-S3).

Each challenge runs for 6-8 weeks and teams are set tasks via the STEM Challenges website. There is a mixture of hands-on testing, experimental work and research, all backed up with online resources. A team's entry is judged by STEM Ambassadors at a regional judging event. Challenges include; designing a National Handball Centre, the Addidas Glove Challenge and an Anti-Doping Challenge. A new challenge was launched roughly every term, and all the past challenges are available on the STEM Challenges website.

The challenges provide students with the opportunity to explore real world STEM projects and to solve problems creatively. Students completing the challenges are already completing many of the requirements for the CREST Bronze Awards. You can register your students for the CREST Bronze Awards with your CREST Local Coordinator. Your CREST Local Coordinator will then provide your students with CREST Profile Forms to complete throughout their project work in order to achieve their CREST Awards.
