Cumbria Branch

The Branch puts on two major events each year, Fun Science in Cumbria (a week-long hands-on event for primary pupils) and the Link Lecture for post-16 pupils. Over the years 18,000 children in one of the more remote parts of the country have therefore been able to take part in fun and educational activities.
Would you like to be involved with the Cumbria branch? We are currently looking for new volunteers to help develop and deliver events for the public across the whole of Cumbria. Can you help? Perhaps you have a particular scientific interest you'd like to explore more or maybe you'd like to see more events happening in your area of Cumbria? See our volunteer opportunities page for further details of how to get involved.
Fun Science in Cumbria 2012
Last year's Fun Science took place over two days in NSEW, during which time school groups visited the GSK site in Ulverston to take part in a series of activities. Activities were delivered by the branch alongside other partner organizations. Primary school children were introduced to the constellations in the amazing StarLab; had a go at sending messages with Morse code; played the detective as they learned about forensices; and got a chance to get close with some stunning birds of prey! The science was a lot of fun and the children have a great time! Our thanks to GSK for supporting this event.
