Cancer: from Cause to Cure
Professor Lawrence Young earned his degree in medical in biochemistry in 1981 and since then he has proceeded to gain a PhD in medicine before joining the department of cancer studies and beginning his career in the study of cancer and its pathogenicity. Professor Young has greatly contributed to clinical research in the field of cancer and has received numerous awards and recognitions including honorary membership to the Royal College of Physicians and elected membership of The Royal Society of Pathologists and later Fellowship. Lawrence became Head of Division of Cancer Studies and Director of the Cancer Research UK Institute for Cancer Studies in 2001, and is currently the Pro-Vice-Chancellor for research in life sciences, medicine and capital development at Warwick University.
Professor Young is at the forefront of cancer research, listed as one of the world’s most cited scientists having published over 200 research papers as well as reviews and book chapters in multiple fields. We are delighted to have him here at the new Staffordshire University science centre on the 19th of March 2013 for his lecture “Cancer from cause to cure”, which will include topics such as the history of cancer, changes in medicine and current research into treatment and cures.
