Edinburgh's engineering and construction history
Riddle's Court will be hosting a variety of events for this year's National Science and Engineering Week. Our exhibition will describe the scientific research we’ve carried out to understand the building more completely and will be suitable for all ages.There will also be an Historic Scotland exhibition to highlight the traditional building materials of Scotland, plus a display of stone masonry components, roofing slates and information which relates to the science of construction, provided by Construction Skills and Edinburgh College. In the evenings there will be a series of talks on Edinburgh’s engineering and construction history including talks on Engineering Edinburgh (15th), Building Edinburgh (16th), Water and Waste in the 18th Century (17th) and Painting Edinburgh (18th). (All talks: £7.50 Adults and £5 Students). The evening will start with a reception and viewing of the exhibitions at 6.30pm, followed by a one hour talk beginning at 7pm, with a chance to ask questions after the lectures.
On the 18th March there will be a series of workshops for school groups focusing on on traditional building methods and give children hands-on experience of engineering and stone masonry. Each session will comprise of two workshops of 45 minutes.
