Family Fun Day at the British Geological Survey

Saturday, 23 March, 2013 - 10:00 to 16:00

The BGS will be holding an event for children with the help of Rockwatch, THE

club for young fans of fossils, rocks and dinosaurs, and other special guests for hands-on science! Join in a fascinating range of activities and ‘behind the scenes’ tours.

• Try your luck at gold panning.

• Generate an earthquake.

• Make your own fossil replicas.

• Touch a mammoth or a dinosaur bone.

• Discover the amazing mineral treasures of the Earth.

• Take a walk through 2 billion years of earth history on our spectacular Geological Walk.

• Zoom through the landscape in our immersive 3D lecture theatre.

• Visit the BGS Core Store, home to 200 kilometres of borehole core and millions of geological samples.

• Meet real geologists and find out what they do and why we need them.

• Browse in our shop for maps, books, minerals, fossils, jewellery and much more.
