Time(s): 10:00 - 18:00
Venue: Across England , London, London

Description:
Good water quality is essential for the many animals and plants that live in and around our lakes, ponds and rivers. Unfortunately, water is easily affected by pollution from agriculture, waste we throw away, and even pollutants in the air.
Amazingly, we still know very little about the health of the water in many of our lakes and ponds, especially the small ones. By taking part in the OPAL water survey, you'll help scientists learn more about water quality across the country.
By telling us what life you see in your local pond or lake you’ll discover more about the water's health and contribute to valuable scientific research.
For more information or to reserve a pack please contact the Water Centre at opalwatercentre@geog.ucl.ac.uk

RBC Rain garden

Date(s): 15 September 2010 to 31 December 2012
Time(s): 10:00 - 18:00
Venue: WWT London Wetland Centre (Google map), Barnes, London

Description:
London Wetland Centre's beautiful new rain garden, designed by landscape gardening expert Nigel Dunnett and Matthew Wilson (Channel 4's 'The Landscape Man') opens this month.
Rain water management is the key focus of the garden, a vital message at a time when water conservation will become more and more important as the climate changes. As befits a garden at a wildlife reserve it will also feature creature towers to provide habitats for animals to live in, a pictorial meadow and wetland planting.
Recycling is another important theme. An old shipping container is brought to life as a stunning pavilion planted with a green roof, providing an elevated wildlife habitat. The pavilion's outside walls include spaces crammed with natural materials where birds, insects, spiders and other wildlife can feed and shelter.
