  • Unveiling Darwin's Canopy

    Find out how treatments for diseases have changed over time. This year's display explores the history of influenza - how did people understand it in the past, what treatments were used to treat it, and how does this fit with our understanding of today's flu epidemics?

  • Darwin the Geologist

    A permanent exhibition telling the story of the rock specimens that Darwin collected on the Beagle voyage and how he analysed and used them in his early scientific work.

  • Wild Wild World

    Description:
    To celebrate the International Year of Biodiversity, we are launching Wild Wild World, a year-long series of events and displays for all the family at World Museum Liverpool.

    You will be able to explore life in rock pools at the aquarium, have close encounters at the bug house and come behind the scenes to see some of the 750,000 insects in the museum's collections!

    In addition there will be many displays and exhibitions, including prints from our Botany collection showing some of the plant discoveries made during Captain Cook's first great voyage around the Pacific, specimens from Liverpool City Council's famous living plant collection, and of course the exciting interactive Plantastic! exhibition. The events programme will vary throughout the year so be sure to visit liverpoolmuseums.org.uk for the latest activities.

  • Plantastic!

    Description:
    Discover the secret world of plants in Plantastic!, an interactive exhibition for all the family. We use plants in our daily life, often without knowing or thinking about them, but they are essential for the planet's survival.

    In the exhibition there will be around 40 exciting interactive displays that show the dynamic life of plants and explore the themes of feeding, providing, reproducing, moving and surviving.

    An exhibition co-produced by National Museums Liverpool, The Museon (Netherlands), Technopolis, the Flemish Science Centre (Belgium), Bruns (Netherlands) and Le Vaiseau (France).

  • The Angela Marmont Centre for UK Biodiversity

    Description:
    This is a new resource centre for anyone with an interest in UK natural history. The Centre is situated in the Natural History Museum's new Darwin Centre.

    Visitors will be able to access over 10,000 drawers of plants and animals collected in the UK. Scientists from the Identification and Advisory Service will also be on hand.

    The Centre will respond to people's concerns about threats to UK biodiversity by taking a lead in the national citizen science debate and by actively leading partnership projects.

  • South Africa Landscape

    Description:
    The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and the British Museum bring a small corner of South Africa to central London. South Africa is only exceeded by the rainforest of tropical Brazil in biodiversity terms; although it covers just 2% of the world’s surface area it is home to nearly 10% of the world’s plants. The South Africa Landscape will be created by Kew to highlight the rich diversity of plant life in the Cape region, home to all three of the country’s famous biodiversity hotspots: the Western Cape’s fynbos, the North West Cape’s Succulent Karoo and the coastal flora of the Eastern Cape. You will walk through a desert terrain of tumbled rocks, scree and sand, interspersed with quiver trees and swathes of spectacular plant colour. The display will highlight the significance of the biodiversity conservation work undertaken in South Africa by Kew, particularly through Kew’s Millennium Seed Bank Partnership
