Alexandra
3. Event Manager Surname:
Robson
9. Event Manager Email address:
Your event
10. Which of the following areas of science does you event best fit into?:
Engineering
Event type and format
17. Length:
Interactive 'Identity Kiosk'
18. What will the format of your event be?:
Interactive exhibition - drop in activity, hands-on stand
19. Please give any details about the format of your event you feel are relevant.:
We are proposing to create an “Identity Kiosk” that would work as part of a drop in event, staffed by members of the project team. The kiosk will have Interactive Posters where we’ll tell people what IM is and the main ways of authentication. The kiosk can also accommodate touch-screen displays where people can play our filmed scenarios and post their reactions to them. We have also commissioned two video games that capture our research questions and allow us to collect attitudinal and other data directly from each player. These games will be shown in the kiosk. Visitors could also interact with the on-line Q-sort designed for the project and map their views on identity management against the dominant perspectives in the UK. Finally we can print and have different wearable items working with RFID tags (we can bring with us readers to show people how they work when they wear them).
20. Location/venue:
Venue and location to be allocated by the Festival team
21. Venue requirements:
This will need to be in a high traffic area
22. Audience Level:
General Public

IMPRINTS (Identity Management –Public Responses to Identity Technologies and Services) - title tbc
13. Description of the core message of your event and key topics to be covered (c.100 words):
This will be a drop in event, or 'Identity Kiosk', engaging the public with a high profile research project. IMPRINTS (Identity Management –Public Responses to Identity Technologies and Services) is a comparative and multidisciplinary research project, asking about the influences on UK and US publics to engage and/or disengage with identity management practices, services and technologies of the future. These involve, among others, new forms of biometric authentication; innovative ‘smart’ tokens like ID or customer cards, jewellery, garment, or further enhanced smart phones. These technologies have become subject to paradoxical processes of acceptance and rejection, with members of the public warmly embracing the one and fiercely rejecting the other. In this research we aim at a better understanding of these paradoxes in order to facilitate public debate, policy development and user-centric applications. The three-year IMPRINTS project is funded by the Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council (EPSRC). In 2011, the project was selected as a Big Idea for the Future, by the Research Councils and the Universities of the UK, expecting that our research (and the other Big Ideas) will 'have a profound effect on the UK future'. One of the key aims of the project is to develop an understanding of the social parameters that influence acceptance and rejection of IM-TPS, and to use that knowledge to describe best practices for design and implementation.
Press interest
23. Do you consider that the event will attract press interest?:
Yes
24. If yes, please summarise up to 4 key points you think will be of press interest:
This is always a topical issue. Having the kiosk in an public place could certainly generate press interest.
25. Do you have any other comments you would like to make or information you would like to include?:
Engineering selected as area of science but the activity is based on a multidisciplinary research project, asking about the influences on UK and US publics to engage and/or disengage with identity management practices, services and technologies of the future
