The Horners' Company

A grant from the Horner's company, plus practical support and advice, is helping us to develop our CREST Star Investigators scheme. CREST Star, launched in 2007, provides fun activity packs for children's science clubs, and awards for achievement - helping to boost interest in science.

We aim to widen access to the scheme across a range of formal and informal educational settings, and are relaunching as a web based resource in 2013. Support from the Horners' Company has helped us to create the first in a series of fresh new activities for children: on the theme of plastics.

David Beynon, Past Master of the Horners' Company commented: "The Horners' Company had been working at the secondary school level (Polymer Study Tours, Salters Horners A Level Physics) and had been looking for an opportunity at primary level. The CREST Star scheme fitted with our policy of supporting educational projects with a national reach and significance, and was manageable within our modest budget. Finally we were influenced by the British Science Association's experience and track record in this field and their readiness to incorporate a "polymer" activity in the CREST Star portfolio."
