The West Midlands Branch is based in Birmingham and organises an annual programme of lectures, visits and other events.

The branch was relaunched in 1997 as the Birmingham Branch; it arranges events in central Birmingham and also at other locations in theWest Midlands. It has formed a strong collaboration with "Thinktank", the Birmingham ScienceMuseum, and a partnership with local University of the Third Age groups.

At the 2012 Annual General Meeting, Prof Robert Ashford was elected as Branch Chairman and Anita Shervington as Secretary.

An initiative was launched in early 2013 to seek additional volunteers to support the Branch and this is proving very fruitful – anyone wishing to learn more about this is invited to contact the Secretary.

The Annual Prestige Lecture is the highlight of the programme; the 2012 lecture was given by Professor Lawrence Young and speakers over recent years have included Lord Winstone, Lord May, Frances Cairncross, Susan Greenfield, Professor Steve Jones.and Prof Peter Atkins

The Branch Secretary will be pleased to give any further information and discuss involvement by anyone interested in sharing in the activities of the branch or in assisting on the branch committee. Please contact Anita Shervington on anitashervington@hotmail.com
