The Haldane Lecture -- a new prize lecture set up by the Genetics Society for public communication of genetics and genomics.Plan is to use this to discuss the miscommunication of genetics as a deterministic science, especially through the media, and what this means for public perceptions and potential uptake of useful genomic technologies. The message will be that it makes far more sense to think of genetics as probabilistic, than in terms of "gene for" anything.
