Moving forward in Transport research: The future for Older Drivers
13. Description of the core message of your event and key topics to be covered (c.100 words):
The digital economy offers a framework to develop transport solutions for disabled and older people that support mobility, enabling the maintenance of lifestyle choices and inclusion in new activities.
Initial research within the Inclusive Transport activity has focussed on private transport for the elderly. We are exploring how to implement a suite of technologies to assist older people to drive safely for longer, maintaining their mobility, independence and social networks. We are also looking to explore the development of a personalized, seamless, multi-modal travel information system to help vulnerable people make safe, affordable journeys using public transport. Public transport systems must be physically accessible and easy to use.

We are exploring the potential of developing personalised satellite navigation systems for drivers.
We are now able to gather and analyse a wealth of information on driver behaviour using our driving simulator and instrumented vehicle.
