British Science Week is a ten-day celebration of science, research and innovation - featuring events and activities across the UK for people of all ages. It is run by the British Science Association, funded by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI) and supported by partners.

The UK is at the forefront of scientific discovery and innovation – from life sciences to engineering and green technologies – but we need to continue to invest in, and position the UK as a leading place to undertake, research and development in a way that benefits all of society.

British Science Week is more than a celebration. It’s a moment to highlight the role of science in all our lives, as well as in wider society, our environment and the economy - and why it matters for our shared future. Thank you to all our supporters and to everyone who champions and engages with British Science Week.

British Science Week in schools and communities

British Science Week provides a platform to stimulate and support teachers, STEM professionals, science communicators and the general public to produce and participate in STEM events and activities.

Anyone can organise an event or activity, and the British Science Association helps organisers plan by providing free online activity packs and support resources for promoting the Week on social media. We welcome and support any type of organiser, from schools to community groups, and from local businesses to large national cultural institutions. The resulting programme of events is a hugely varied and eclectic mix.

British Science Week in STEM organisations

British Science Week is an opportunity to celebrate and showcase the contribution STEM industries make to the UK. Many organisations use British Science Week to talk about the latest cutting edge science happening in their organisations, or the ‘behind the scenes’ science that powers our daily life.

There are almost ten million (9.4m) people working in STEM industries, and we use British Science Week to celebrate the UK’s science and innovation workforce. We coordinate a series of films and profiles showcasing the diverse people and roles that challenge long-standing stereotypes around science, with the aim of encouraging people, from all backgrounds, to see themselves as scientists.

Anyone can join the campaign and share their own #SmashingStereotypes story with us onInstagram and other social media channels by using the official hashtag.
