The big bang event at West Suffolk College

The West Suffolk College event, on the main Bury St Edmunds campus, will consist of interactive activities which promote STEM subjects.
This exciting event, with opportunities for hands-on experience of many different subject areas, aims to attract more potential students into STEM subjects. Young people, especially middle and upper school pupils, will have the opportunity to take part in engineering and science activities and find out what the College has to offer.
Planned activities include: making cocktails, firing a rocket, using a thermal imaging camera, working in a photographic darkroom, molecular gastronomy, make-up, lip balm, hair colour and massage oil.The Big Bang event will build on the extensive 14 -16 year provision the College already delivers with local schools.
We want to encourage young people to take advantage of career opportunities with local companies. The College is keen to place Level 3 students in local science-based industries – to the benefit of employer and employee. Industry sectors engaged with include manufacturing, process engineering, ports, and the energy sector (including nuclear).
The College offers Science and Engineering qualifications up to degree level, and also runs GCSE Maths classes for adult learners in the evenings and Saturday mornings.
