General
Event type and format
11. Do you have a preferred day for your event to take place on?:
Saturday 7 September 2013
Sunday 8 September 2013
17. Length:
4 x 30mins or 3 x 45mins
18. What will the format of your event be?:
Show/Performance/Demo lecture - entertainment events for adults and families
19. Please give any details about the format of your event you feel are relevant.:
This event is a huge spectacle that really pulls the crowds. It features trials riders and freerunners flipping and tricking around and over a big scaffolding rig. We will bring the full rig and a PA system we can run from our vans (although if there is a power supply that is ideal). It takes about 3 hours to setup so we normally do that the evening before show day. The event works really well as either a 360degree spectacle, or as a set-up with the audience on one side. As the set-up takes a while (and set-down is approx 2 hours) we would suggest running the event for a couple of days. We suggest 4 x 30minute shows or 3 x 45minute shows per day. Our ideal space is 12m x 20m, with a 30m x 3m section to allow our aerial rider to get a run-up, jump and land in order to do his back-flips. Being outside can attract lots of passers by and our average audience for these events has been 400 - 750 people per show. But being outside puts us at risk of bad weather. Being inside works well if in a place of high footfall. If we are indoors we do need floor to ceiling clearance of about 5m.
20. Location/venue:
Venue and location to be allocated by the Festival team
21. Venue requirements:
This show works really well wherever there is a big footfall - shopping centre, town square, atrium of host building etc... As above, our ideal space is 12m x 20m, with a 30m x 3m section to allow our aerial rider to get a run-up, jump and land in order to do his back-flips. Being outside can attract lots of passers by and our average audience for these events has been 400 - 750 people per show. But being outside puts us at risk of bad weather. Event details
12. Event title:
Extreme Sports Battle: The Science
13. Description of the core message of your event and key topics to be covered (c.100 words):
An awesome, adrenaline-fuelled live stunt show that uncovers the science behind extreme sports using back-flipping freerunners and world-class trials riders. MC-ed by TV Science Presenter Greg Foot, Extreme Sports Battle: The Science explores the science and tech involved as daredevil trials riders face up against mind-blowing free-runners to find out who reigns supreme – Man or Machine? A lesson from the pros introduces the vaults, rolls, wheelies and bunny hops that propel both man and machine over and around their urban playground as our host deconstructs the physiology and physics behind each one. Then the Battle begins as the experts climb and jump over our giant 8ft scaffolding rig, competing in ever more spectacular bouts.
Press interest
23. Do you consider that the event will attract press interest?:
Yes
24. If yes, please summarise up to 4 key points you think will be of press interest:
We always get a LOT of press coverage for this show because it is such a spectacle. There isn't any research hook, but the show lends itself to some brilliant photos (such as an upside-down biker mid back-flip). I can send you a bunch of photos!
25. Do you have any other comments you would like to make or information you would like to include?:
This show is a collaboration between Daredevil Labs Ltd (Greg Foot's scicomm company) and Andrei Burton Events. Andrei is one of the top trials riders in the world. The show also features Jack Gear - 3rd internationally in mountain bike freestyle (aerials), former British Trials Champion Joe Seddon, Alex Potts (superb freerunner) & Kie Willis (professional free-runner and Red Bull regular). We'd absolutely love to bring this spectacle to Newcastle!
