The Affiliated Branch was formed through a partnership with the independent Yorkshire Philosophical Society. The partnership reaffirms an historic link as the British Science Association was founded under the auspices of the YPS in 1831 and had its first Annual Meeting (now the Festival of Science) at the Yorkshire Museum, home of the YPS. The Society organises an annual programme of varied lectures and other events. They also work with the Café Scientifique in York.
