The Oriental Museum, Durham University

Presentations:

Dr. Kirsty McCarrison from the Durham University Heritage Collections Learning Team will talk about the Science of the Lindisfarne Gospels; then she and Dr. Sarah Price will give a tour of the Oriental Museum with plenty of time for people to have a good look at the collections and chat.

Short series of 4 minute presentations on British Science Festival proposal ideas:

  •     Professor Robin Johnson, Newcastle University and local artist Yvette Hawkins on the 'Ideas Take Flight' workshop for schools
  •     Dr Phillip Aldridge, who will be presenting on Leading Edge, where students from local schools are teamed up with academics on a mini research project
  •     Phil will also be presenting on a project using smartphone platforms to promote public awareness in bioscience research
  •     Anne Buckle, Deputy Manager, Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability will discuss some projects being led by researchers across the Newcastle Institute for Research on Sustainability (NIRES)
  •     Helen Schell, Newbridge artists' studios, will be discussing a collaborative project with the Biomedical dept of Newcastle University on the theme of 'The Human Body in Space' and the potential collaborative projects of the 4 other Newbridge artists and plans for an exhibition, workshops and presentations for the British Science Festival
  •     Claire Willis and Catherine Purvis Mawson on their Fashioning Science catwalk event
