This half term, we have been learning about South America and the Rainforest. For National Science & Engineering week, we will be extending our learning in the area. Reception and Nursery will be planning hands on activities in our nature garden and will be planting their own plants in the garden. They will monitor the growth of these plants over the year. Year 1 will be planting their own sunflower seeds, and learning more about what plants need to live. Year 2 will be reading the story Where the Forest Meets the Sea by Jeanie Baker, and creating their own collages of the rainforest. They will learn about the importance of the rainforest and conservation. Years 3 and 4, who have been learning about the Mayans, will be learning how chocolate is made (from bean to bar), and linking this to understanding changes in state (e.g. melting). Years 5 and 6, who have been learning about the Incas, will be learning about Inca astrology and connecting this to study of The Earth and Beyond. All of the classes will share what they have leant at an end of week assembly. We will also be inviting parents in to take part in after school science workshops. These will be hands on and linked to the theme being studied by each class.
