Drop in session throughout the day for parents, kids and big kids
17. What will the format of your event be?:
18. Please give any details about the format of your event you feel are relevant.:
We will put a real bed up, complete with bedding and cuddly toys to prompt activities about what helps and hinders sleep (lift the flaps picture game), a computer game about who sleeps more, a kid or a ???? sloth/koala/giraffe etc. We will also read stories about sleep on the bed. We have a display based on the book ‘where children sleep’ about sleep places around the world and the kids who sleep there, and then ask kids to draw their own bedroom/place they slept for a competition (we will give away all the sleep books as prizes). We will have sleep puzzles and crafts to take away, and a huge dream catcher over the bed and to explain to them about N American dream catchers! We will make sleep education leaflets to give out to kids and parents, will ask kids to tell us their bedtimes and ages and make a big graph we projected on the wall and add each of them to as they come to the stall, and hand out super sleeper stickers! Based on previous experience, we will answer lots and lots of sleep questions!
Venue and location to be allocated by the Festival team
20. Venue requirements:
Farrah and I talked about putting the bed up in the Great North Museum on the Saturday to tie in with the sleepover that night. If this isn't possible, we'll need a venue that is public yet covered as parents and kids drop in during the day. We have the bed but not a tent or marquee!
13. Description of the core message of your event and key topics to be covered (c.100 words):
Join us on the bed, and tell us about your sleep. Do you snooze like a bear or nap like a cat? Wake up early or sleep all day? Would you most like to sleep in a nest or a den, or a hammock or a 4-poster bed? Everyone needs sleep. Find out why, where, and how sleep happens for people and animals all around the world.

24. Do you have any other comments you would like to make or information you would like to include?:
*title of event taken from Dr Seuss’s Sleep Book This ran for several days in Durham last year and was a MAJOR success. We have the bed from that but need a suitable venue - it works best as a drop in activity - and also need to do it on the Saturday, partly because of the family angle but also because the lead scientist on this is only free on the Saturday. Please don't schedule this against an arch/anth fieldtrip or other events as from past experience we're going to need the whole Section for crowd control and story reading!
