Moray & Highlands Branch

The branch covers a wide geographical area and enjoys opportunities to travel to give talks to remote and rural schools and communities under its programme The Travelling Scholars [1].

A new initiative, The T-Exchange [2], aims to provide opportunities for everyone to explore the potential of new types of technology. A monthly workshop is based around simple skills such as soldering or software, in a self-help format. New equipment such as 3D printers are opening up manufacturing technology on a domestic scale in the same way that the PC and laptop have done for information. Combined with Arduino electronic kits and software tools such as Google SketchUp, there is a wealth of possibilities to be tried out, with support on hand, in addition to tea and coffee.

The branch has an online discussion forum [3], open to all, and in 2012 organised a successful debate on climate change with 100 attendees as part of the Orkney International Science Festival [4].
