Do you want to help shape the future of online science communication and engagement in the UK?
The British Science Association creates conversations between scientists and members of the public to make science a bigger part of our national culture, and improve the public understanding, accessibility, and accountability of the sciences and engineering in the UK.
We run the annual British Science Festival, National Science and Engineering Week, organise CREST awards to encourage creative extra-curricular science activity in schools, recognise excellence through the National Science and Engineering Competition, and work with scientists to help them engage the public with their work.
We recently went through a major website redevelopment. To be honest, it didn’t quite go as planned.
www.britishscienceassociation.org launched last year, and we need your help in getting it fully up and running to support our events, projects with schools, other programmes, and profile. You’ll be familiar with Drupal and project management, particularly so you can help us liaise between our staff and developers. You’ll also be able to work with MySQL databases.
But we also want a strategic thinker who can work closely with the Association’s Senior Management Team to help shape our future work. Under our new CEO we’ll be embarking on some major rethinking of our vision and strategy. Making innovative use of online technologies will be an important part of that, so we need someone who can look at trends in technology and help us identify how they will create opportunities and challenges for us as an organization.
We don’t need you have that vision right now, but we’d need to see evidence that you’ve got interesting ideas and can think creatively about what we could do in the future.
We also want to move away from the model of having a complete website overhaul every few years, so experience of making sustained incremental improvements to an organisation’s online profile would be beneficial.
Please send us your CV and a covering letter that summarises your interest in this post, and details your ability to match the criteria outlined in the Person Specification. Applications should be made via email to firstname.lastname@example.org , with the subject “Digital Projects Manager Application”.
The closing date for applications is the end of the day on 23 June 2013
The interviews for this position will take place during week commencing 1 July 2013 (to include a short task to be prepared ahead of time)
