Regional networking with professionals working across science communication and public engagement

For an opportunity to form new collaborations and enrich your activities with new ideas, joining a local Science Alliance could be a rewarding move.

Led by the British Science Association regional team [1] in close collaboration with local partners, the main purpose of a Science Alliance is to enable the sharing of good practice across the region by bringing together practitioners who:

• Work in all fields of science, including technology, maths and social sciences
• work to engage groups of all people
• come from diverse backgrounds including science, communication, academia, education, museums, public sector, freelance, industry, business, professional/learned societies etc.

• to add value to existing networks in the region by providing a space for them to come together with one another and for collaborations to be formed.

In addition, your nearest Science Alliance will:

• Allow members to meet others involved in public engagement activities and share good practice
• offer support to others in the field
• provide opportunities for collaboration with others to add value to existing activities and to develop new initiatives
• raise awareness of activities in the region.

Science Alliance meetings take place every 2–3 months at a key location in the region, and all members are invited. The meetings typically start in the evening from 7pm onwards, and follow an informal format of short presentations, buffet and drinks with plenty of time for networking. There are currently Science Alliances in North-East England, North-West England, Yorkshire and Humberside, Wales, South-East England and Cornwall.
