British Science Association grants:
We currently provide four sources of funds to support Branches in the development and delivery of their event programmes.
- Start-up grant
Branches are eligible to receive a start-up grant of £500 in their first year. At the end of the first year, if a Branch has met all of the minimum requirements and has a balance of less than £1000, they will be eligible to receive a second and final grant of a further £500.
- National Science & Engineering Week Grant
These grants are allocated once a year to support Branch events and activities taking place during National Science & Engineering Week. Applications open in September.
- Strategic Grant [1]
Branches can apply for strategic grants to meet the costs of their events programme. Grants are allocated to eight branches a year, and are based on the quality of the proposed programme, and its relation to our objectives. Visit our Strategic Grant page [1] for more information and details on how to apply.
- Match Funding [2]
Many Branches seek to raise funds from other sources that are external to the British Science Association. In order to support this fundraising activity at a local level, we offer to match the money raised by Branches. This means that up to £250 of the funds raised by your local branch could potentially be doubled through this scheme. Visit our Match Funding page [2] for more information and details on how to apply.
Other sources of funding:
There are several ways to raise additional funds for your Branch that will help to further strengthen Branch programmes. These sources fall into four broad categories:
- Local businesses (cash and in-kind support)
- Local trusts
- National science grant-making bodies
- Charging for some or all Branch events (by ticket or a tin-shake for donations)
-
Schemes such as EasyFundraising, which enable you to support your branch whilst shopping online, at no extra cost.
Support for Branches:
If you need any additional support or ideas for fundraising, the Regional Team is on hand to help. Please don’t hesitate to contact your Regional Officer. Training is also available to branch members wanting to learn more about fundraising techniques.
The following document was created for National Science & Engineering Week so the grant schemes advertised within this document may not be applicable, however, the sections on sponsorship and possible organisations to contact may also be useful.
