What’s the best way to make wood colourful?
In this project you will cut and shape wood. You will also look at different ways of colouring wood. Your goal will be to make a wooden pendant for a friend.
The scenario …
Your friend has asked you to make a wooden pendant that she can wear on a necklace.
She would like it to be red. She wants it to be "teardrop-shaped‟.
CREST Silver Award – typically 30 hours of project work
Make, finish and test ceramic jewellery
For this project you will use clay as your ceramic. You will design and shape beads and/or pendants to make a necklace or bracelet. You will investigate ways of finishing the clay – in other words, colouring it and protecting it. You will then carry out tests to see how strong your product is.
CREST Gold Award – typically 70+ hours of project work
Investigate the properties of metals used to make jewellery
In this project you will find out about the properties of metals, and work out how to protect and restore jewellery.
You should begin with some research. Find out what metals are used to make jewellery.
Ask yourself, “why?” You may find it useful to contact some jewellery manufacturers, or engineers who work with metal.
