The Smallpeice Trust residential courses cover a wide range of subjects and take place at universities and other venues throughout the UK. Attending one of these courses gives students the opportunity to learn more about engineering, design and technology and meet like-minded people. They will gain experience of university and industry that will accelerate their personal development and their potential for greater academic achievement.
The Engineering Experience and Get Ahead with STEM residential programmes for Year 9 students are designed for students who are considering their GCSE options. Projects and workshops are based on real-life scenarios and engineering professionals are always on hand to offer advice and guidance. They also help to develop interpersonal and transferable skills. Throughout a week residential course students have the opportunity to take part in engineering challenges with small teams; the students will then present their project work at the end of the week to their peers, supervisors and course leaders.
Students taking part in some Engineering Experience Courses are given the opportunity to register for the CREST Bronze Awards before the course begins. Throughout the residential experience students will complete a CREST Profile Form. A CREST assessor will attend the course at the end of the week to speak with the students about their experiences and to assess them for the CREST Bronze Awards.
