It is an event suitable for young children (pre-teens), but it is recommended that the younger children have at least a basic interest in science as the discussion will involve some in-depth discussion of atomic theory etc.

20. Venue requirements:
This is presented as an intimate presentation where audience members will need to be able to see the unfolding jelly-baby dramas. A small room with a slightly tiered seating arrangement would be ideal, as well as access to some power sockets.
13. Description of the core message of your event and key topics to be covered (c.100 words):
Archaeology has been embracing science for over a centaury from such diverse fields as nuclear physics and Bayesian statistics. Techniques such as radiocarbon dating will be familiar to those with an interest in archaeology but the theory and practice behind scientific techniques is sometimes difficult to grasp. This is where an army of jelly-baby sweets comes in handy. Through an interactive session, and the selfless sacrifice of the jelly-baby volunteers this session aims to discuss fields such as radiocarbon dating, statistics and strontium isotope studies. Through a discussion of the theory and application of these techniques the public will be given an introduction in the ways modern archaeology utilises modern scientific advance and how these advance change our fundamental understanding of the human past.

24. Do you have any other comments you would like to make or information you would like to include?:
Though this event will only cater to a small number of people at one time it is hoped that a number of shows could be presented. It is hoped that the event would attracted people who might feel lost in a large lecture theatre, and feel lack of engagement with the presenter, and the topic.
