Inspired by the popular 80's invention TV show The Great Race, Westfield is going to run it's own evening of invention challenges. Children (and their parents) from Key Stage 1 will be invited to come to the school and take part in an evening of invention challenges ranging from 'protect the egg' (in which they have to prevent an egg from breaking when it is dropped from a high height) to 'build a balloon chair' (in which they have construct a chair capable of taking someone's weight using only balloons). Prizes will be given for the best/most imaginative inventions. The evening aims to be a fun event that gets the children and parents thinking about different aspects of science and engineering in an enjoyable context. Throughout the evening there will also be scientific demonstrations given by different teachers and talks about different inventions and how they came about (with a focus on accidental discoveries). This event will be repeated the following evening for KS2 children (please see my seperate event submission).
