5. Event or activity description (max 300 words):
We are carrying out a science week in school where the children will be completing science activities and having special visitors. Each child receives a 'passport' which they complete during the week with things they want to learn, what they learnt and an evaluation of the week. They also receive a sticker as they swap class (labs for this week) to carry out an activity.
We have visitors from outside school such as: parents with science areas of expertise carrying out such as hands cleaning activities, teeth cleaning, a professor from York University launching science week with an assembly, hopefully we a borrowing a planetarium for children to use like last year, a session by an expert about science for parents and what their children learn, microscope sessions, chicks hatching, an ambulance visit, year 6 visit the secondary school and their labs, Pets at Home are visiting with how to look after animals plus more to be confirmed! Every child will have a visitor and a taught session from their teacher (professor/doctor for the week) and also swap to another class.
At the end of the week we nominate a scientist of the week who receives a certificate to take home. I am hoping to have a whole school homework where children find out about one discovery/invention and create a fact file to share in class. Possibly then dressing up as their discoverer/inventor on the Friday as a final celebration! Lots of fun and learning will be taking place!
