The British Science Association is delighted by the news that two members of the British Science Association have been recognised in the Queen's Birthday Honours, 2012. 
Dr Ken Skeldon, chair of the Association’s Aberdeen branch, has been appointed an MBE for services to science engagement.

Professor Julia King, Honorary Fellow of the Association, has been awarded the Dames Commander of the Order of the British Empire  (DBE) for services to Higher Education and technology.

Dr Skeldon is Head of Public Engagement with Research at Aberdeen University, and was a leading figure in securing the University’s bid for the British Science Festival, which returns to Aberdeen in September for the first time since 1963.

In his role as chair of the Aberdeen branch of the British Science Association, he has overseen the group raising thousands of pounds from sponsors and supporters each year, allowing the creation and management of a sustained regional programme. Amongst the events taking place every year, the branch runs a full and varied schedule for National Science and Engineering Week which is consistently highly rated and provides hands-on opportunities to engage with science for huge numbers of people in Aberdeen and the surrounds.
