2014 Conference Bursary Scheme

Bursaries are available for those who would not otherwise be able to attend the Conference.

Eligibility:

Bursaries are awarded in four categories:

  • BSc or MSc Science Communication students (UK Full/Part time course for 2013/2014)
  • Freelancers and individuals from non-profit organisations with less than 15 staff
  • Researchers involved in public engagement
  • Volunteers who have made a substantial and regular contribution to science communication initiatives over a considerable period of time

Bursaries are only awarded to applicants in the UK and priority will be given to those who haven't received a bursary previously.

Bursaries are awarded based on how you hope to benefit from attending the Conference and how you will contribute and pass on ideas to your colleagues. Please be as specific as possible.

Applicants can only apply once.

Bursary applications are now closed. Applicants will be notified by Friday 4 April.

Bursary package
A bursary covers a two day delegate pass and Conference social events, although you can apply for just one day. If required, BSc/MSc students and Volunteers bursaries can also be used to help with travel and accommodation expenses – you will need to justify this in this application; only standard-class travel will be included and accommodation will be within budget hotels, hostels, university student accommodation or similar.

Unsuccessful applicants
If you are eligible and apply for a bursary but are not selected and would still like to attend, you are guaranteed a place at the Conference and will only be charged the early bird conference fee (or the concessionary fee if eligible).

What you need to do
Bursary recipients are required to produce a written one page summary of one of the Conference sessions chosen by the British Science Association to be completed a week after the conference and emailed to Association staff by Friday 9 May. You will also need to provide receipts for any travel or accommodation.

If you have any questions about your application please email the Conference team.
