BBC Wales, Cardiff for six weeks. This would particularly suit someone based in Wales or a welsh speaker who is interested in a broad range of media from print, radio and broadcast news. The main contact is Head of Broadcast Development, Cathryn Allen.

Financial Times (FT) based in London Bridge. This placement suits someone who is interested in business and politics as well as science. The placement is for three weeks  and offers the opportunity to work alongside Science Editor Clive Cookson. There is also the opportunity to work on the FT's weekly science podcast.

Naked Scientists, Cambridge for six weeks. This placement would suit someone relatively new to science writing based in the Cambridge area or with links to Cambridge and with an interest in podcasts and radio. The main contact is Naked Scientists Producer, Dr Chris Smith.

Nature News, based in Kings Cross, London for four to five weeks. This placement suits someone who is interested in writing for a more specialised audience rather than the general public. The main contacts are online News Reporter Mark Peplow and Assistant News Editor, Brian Owens.

The Times Higher Education (THE) weekly magazine based in Holborn, London. This is usually a three to four week placement and would suit somebody particularly interested in writing about issues in higher education rather than science. Deadlines are not as tight as some of the other placements so this placement would suit someone interested in researching new stories. The placement offers the opportunity to work alongside News Editor, John Gill, Writer, Paul Jump, and Editor of the annual World University Rankings and Deputy Editor, Phil Baty.

The Science Media Centre, in Euston, London for two to four weeks. This placement is often combined with others and provides the opportunity to attend press conferences, contribute to briefing documents and gain insight into how journalists work with scientists and how science is covered in different publications. It would particularly suit somebody interested in communicating controversial science or risk.
