Sheffield has an active branch which is made up from representatives from both the University of Sheffield and Sheffield Hallam University, local authorities, schools, museums and STEM providers. The meetings provide a valuable forum for discussion between groups and individuals about events and activities that are taking place throughout the South Yorkshire region.
For many years the work of the committee has focused upon organising National Science & Engineering Week in South Yorkshire. This has built up to be one of the largest programmes in the United Kingdom with lectures, events and activities for schools, families and adults. This year’s contribution to the Week in South Yorkshire will be held under the banner of the Sheffield Festival of Science and Engineering. This recognises the support given to the programme by the two universities in Sheffield. As in previous years the festival will feature an extensive schools programme based across South Yorkshire but with an expanded public programme which will emphasise the strong research and development base of the Sheffield Region.
Chairperson: Prof. Charles Stirling
Treasurer: Anita de Brouwer
