Case Study, Trinity School, Leamington

Trinity School in Leamington, Warwickshire took part in National Science and Engineering Week during March 2007.

The activities they planned were primarily for year 8 pupils, but also involved the entire school.

Initially the school planned a series of lunctime events which were entitled 'Braniac and Doughnuts'; pupils watched an episode of Braniac whilst supplied with doughnuts!

'Hands on Chemistry'; pupils made lava lamps, sherbert and slime during their lunch break.

'Steve's Bangs and Smells'; their head of science did a half hour demo of some exciting chemical reactions.

Finally, year 8 pupils discussed the problems facing the third world over water shortages/quality and looked at how water in the UK is treated. This occured in a number of different lessons spread over one week.

Pupils made pledges about how to save water on a visual display of water droplets, which could be viewed by the whole school in a gallery of learning.

The school recieved a grant from the BA 'Small Grants Scheme'. To find out more about this scheme please click here.
