The Oxfordshire Science Festival offered over 50 events right across the county each exploring different ways in which science impacts our lives.
The festival was kicked off on Saturday 28 February when Professor Marcus Du Sautoy opened the Science in your World market place in Bonn Square, central Oxford. This free event was a collaboration between 15 organisations that offered hands on activities to demonstrate how science relates to life.
Science in your World was the beginning of two weeks of events for everyone from pre-school children to adults. Most of the festival events were free and covered a huge variety of topics from climate change to particle physics – made famous by the recent search for the Higgs Boson. They even dared to delve into the science relating to sex. Attendees were invited to ask questions on such topics as inheritance, the sex chip, gender and IVF with a panel of experts.
