Festival of Science York

Stars lined up for York's Science Festival!

With 2009 officially ‘International Year of Astronomy’, Science City York, organiser of the annual York Festival of Science and Technology, encouraged all ‘to boldly go’ and ‘reach for the stars’ during York’s 10 day city-wide science extravaganza.

Comedienne Helen Keen got the celebration of all things science off to a flying start on 6 March with her stand-up comedy show It Is Rocket Science! and in a rare visit to the UK Vatican Astronomer Dr Consolmagno offered an extraordinary insight into his role at the Vatican Observatory exploring a series of ‘cosmic questions’ including the interaction between science and religion.

The packed programme of activities included the fabulous ‘Discovery Days’ science exhibition at the National Railway Museum, featuring opportunities to get ‘hands on’ with all aspects of science, from zoology to astro-physics!

Most events were free to attend. Visit www.sciencecityyork.org.uk for more information.
