Musical Moods
The Musical Moods sound experiment for National Science & Engineering Week.
To help produce a new way of classifying decades of programmes within the BBC digital archive, we are asking the general public about their feelings towards a range of different TV theme tunes.
How does music on TV make you feel? Do drums and beats make you think of the news of your favourite soap? What tunes do you associate most with comedy?
We need to test your psyche in a pioneering online experiment with BBC Research & Development and leading acoustics expert Professor Trevor Cox.
Our aim:
- To find out if familiarity with a programme affects your emotive connection to its theme music.
It is hoped that the results from this online experiment will assist in the creation of an entirely novel method of classifying online content according to semantics - or the way you percieve the mood of the TV programme.
Music Technology Education Pack
A secondary school music technology pack accompanies the Musical Moods experiment and includes 8 project activities which can be carried out as part of National Science & Engineering Week.
