Director of Education appointed at the British Science Association
We are delighted to announce that Katherine Mathieson has been appointed as Director of Education, and will take up her post on 30 March.
Katherine joins us after extensive experience with NESTA, initially as Learning Programme Manager and more recently as Head of the Future Innovators Programme. She has worked previously for Science Line, the Forensic Science Service and the pharmaceutical industry.
Katherine will oversee the British Science Association’s range of science, technology, engineering and maths (STEM) enrichment activities that aim to inspire and engage 5-19 year olds. This includes the nationally recognised CREST (CREativity in Science and Technology) award schemes.
CREST Star Investigators is a UK-wide programme that provides schools and other organisations with packs full of motivating activities to use in after-school clubs. The activities focus on thinking and talking about science, encouraging children to solve scientific problems through practical investigation. It was launched in 2007 to ensure a smooth transition to secondary CREST, which gives young people aged 11-19 the opportunity to explore the real nature of STEM by doing their own creative problem solving through projects.
