Roland Jackson, Chief Executive of the Association, last week officially opened the new meeting place of the Nottinghamshire Branch - right in the heart of the local science community.
After Roland unveiled a plaque commemorating the new building, celebratory champagne corks were popped. Later in the evening representatives from across the region - all involved in national and local science communication and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) Partnerships - talked with Roland over dinner.
Geoff Parsons, Chairman of the Branch, enthused: “I hope this opening will act as a catalyst for the branch to continue to grow and to be able to put on more events, helping to communicate the fun, excitement and importance of science in our modern world”.
The new formal home is in the No.1 Nottingham Science Park, developed and owned by the firm Blueprint. John Long of Blueprint said they were “delighted” to have the branch with them. “We’ve always had a vision that No.1 would facilitate value-creating collaboration between its users, and this is an important step in that direction”, he added.
The Nottinghamshire branch has a brimming schedule; planning an ‘International Year of Astronomy’ celebration and launches of a series of science films and discussion nights.
“I was impressed by the energy of the branch, and delighted to see it housed in a building at the centre of science and innovation in Nottingham”, commented Roland.
