Jealous dogs, the silent language of politicians, and the biggest scientific experiment of all time
The BA Festival of Science will be in Norwich from 2-9 September, bringing over 300 of the UK’s top scientists and engineers to discuss the latest developments in science with the public. In addition to talks and debates at the University of East Anglia, there will be a host of events throughout the city as part of the Science in the City programme.
Each year, the Festival generates hundreds of press stories – last year, there were more than 180 stories in the UK national newspapers, in excess of 210 regional newspaper articles, almost 130 radio broadcasts and over 20 TV broadcasts. This year will be no exception.
Here is just a taster of what’s to come at the Festival…
Communication without words – how the body language of politicians gives them away
Science and society - the BA Presidential Address; Frances Cairncross explores the economic impact of climate change and the ‘human’ context of scientific development
Technology revolution: bringing virtual humans to life
The management of sex offenders – how can we deal with this highly emotive issue?
Personalised nutrition and nutrigenomics – are we taking the fun out of eating?
The Large Hadron Collider – soon to be switched on; the story of a 27km long machine and the fundamental building blocks of the Universe
“Computer says no” – the problem of misuse and cyber-regulation
Proud horses and jealous dogs – the real animal emotions
The BA will be operating a Press Centre at the Festival from 3-8 September, sponsored by AstraZeneca, providing desk space, access to telephones, internet PCs and interview rooms with ISDN lines. Registered journalists will have access to embargoed speakers’ papers online a fortnight before the event and will be able to attend press conferences with the key speakers at the Festival.
Registration is now open. Please contact press@the-ba.net for information.
Please note that there will also be a press launch for the Festival on 31 August 2006 in the Dana Centre, London, where key speakers from the Festival will be previewing their talks.
